If you're here reading, chances are the answer is yes ;)
But honestly, though maybe this is biased, Brittany thinks everyone can benefit from talking to a removed third party to explore specific concerns or to engage in more generalized skill building. If you're contemplating, you can always reach out for a free consult call.
Other than ensuring you have the correct appointment date and time, there is no preparation necessary!
With that said, there are some common things clients have done to feel prepared for appointments:
Prepare and bring notes of questions, points of discussion, observations, etc. they'd like to address in therapy
Bring supplies to take notes in session (Brittany can also supply this for you)
Bring something to drink or snack on (again, these are also things Brittany keeps on hand for clients too!)
This is such a common question! Some people come in to session having an agenda they'd like to focus on, and other's cite thoughts or feelings that indicate they have changes they want to make. Ultimately, while we work together to determine treatment goals and focus, it is part of Brittany's job to help guide the session. She's heard clients say more than once at the end of the appointment: "I didn't think I necessarily needed a session today, and now I am glad I came!"
Sometimes progress is noticed quickly, and other times it is over time through consistent and small changes. Progress might be noted by reflecting on interpersonal relationship dynamics, noticing changes in thought processes or perspectives, and by shifts in emotions and bodily responses.
Especially in the early stages of therapy, Brittany makes a point to elicit feedback as to what felt helpful, what didn't, what stood out, or what might have been a takeaway to ensure we are headed on a path that feels meaningful and helpful for you.
